Lesson 6/Day 6
What a beautiful reminder today that God wants us both sharp in the word and showing love for His name, and what a powerful reminder also that we can and should have not just assurance but “full assurance of hope until the end.” If you ever doubt your salvation or question whether you are truly inheriting the promise, look no further than Hebrews chapter six. Have you repented and shared in the Holy Spirit? Then you should be earnest for the Word and desiring to grow and teach and showing love for His name in serving the saints. Your assurance isn’t because of your works, it is demonstrated in your works because God is at work in you. If you are not assured in your salvation, then today is the day. Don’t harden your heart. Consider Jesus and give Him your heart today.

Lesson 6/Day 5
Hebrews 6:4-8 is one of the most serious passages in all of Scripture laying out the most perilous of consequences! Is the author speaking to people who weren’t ever really Christians? Is he speaking to Christians who are in jeopardy of losing their salvation forever? What about the warning? Is it that those who have fallen away – apostates – can’t come back? Will their end be “to be burned?” Believers can be burned up in the end? What?!!? Could this happen to you? It’s a frightening prospect – I hope it is. We’ll dig in to these verses today, and I’ll be addressing these questions in the online study session for this day! Remember, you can join me every day “Live or Later” as we go through each lesson together. Tune in!
On Day 4 we flew over Hebrews 6:4-8. Today, let’s look more closely.

Lesson 6/Day 4
If you came across a memo that read, “You all are not meeting the expectations around here. These messes have got to stop. We’ve gone over this before and if it doesn’t change, big consequences are coming for each of you.” What assumptions would you make about the author? She knows the people she’s dealing with? She’s in charge and has influence? What assumptions would you make about the recipients? They know better? They are aware of the expectations? If you found out that the memo was a Post-It note that your friend put on her fridge addressing her toddlers...what would you think? Pretty harsh, right? Overkill for kiddos, right? She needs some decaf, right? If, however, it was a memo on the fridge in the break room at a corporate office, written from an executive and directed to senior staffers, you’d nod and think they’d better get their act together, right? Knowing the audience and the author made the difference. The same goes here in our study of Hebrews. Unlike the other epistles of the Bible, Hebrews doesn’t open with the typical greeting. With no formal greeting to a specific group of people anywhere in Hebrews, we get to play detective and collect information as we read.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN: In the introduction to this Bible study I asked that you NOT use any commentaries or even the notes in your Bible. I’m going to reiterate that request as you enter in to today’s lesson. Trust the Holy Spirit. Just. Read. The. Word.

Lesson 6/Day 3
Yesterday we looked at the six areas that the author of Hebrews wants mature believers to be established in. How’s your understanding of these six concepts? The author of Hebrews had a warning for his audience because they didn’t have a grasp of them. Do you? Let’s look a little closer at each one and see how we are doing in our personal maturity and understanding

Lesson 6/Day 2
If someone came to you today and asked, “What do I need to do to become a Christian...what will my life look like after that...what do I have to look forward to?” – How would you answer them? The gospel is simple and childlike in its simplicity, actually. Once you’ve gotten that covered, you are ready to understand deeper things - you are admonished to!

Lesson 5/Day 8
The heart of the author, as we studied yesterday, is for his audience to have been ready to teach, but they are not. He is pausing to point this out and he’s not holding back. The apostle Paul also exhorted along these same lines. Read on...

Lesson 5/Day 7
The author of Hebrews is on a roll. He’s been ramping up the information, and you can feel him moving into this new topic: Melchizedek. Jesus is a priest in the order of the mysterious priest, Melchizedek. And, just when you think he’s going to dive into more details about this topic he interrupts his lesson and he doesn’t pick up the topic again for another 24 verses. That’s a good teacher! That’s a teacher who genuinely cares that those listening are understanding and are prepared to learn. It’s not that the subject is difficult...it’s that he knows his audience and he knows they have a problem....
